One-Pass and Two-Pass editing explained
One-pass editing is for manuscripts which need just a few fixes. These include correction of typos (wsa will be fixed as was) or spelling errors (collusian will be fixed to collusion). It also includes fixes for punctuation, incorrect words and feral capital letters. It also includes format fixing and comments/queries and some sentence structure fixes. The small passage below could be fixed in a one-pass edit.
The cat was having a bad day. Usually, he sepnt his time in callusian with the dog but today Mack was unaccountably missing.
"It's time you went out in the garden," Said his master.
The cat mewed his disagreement but the open door and imp;laccable stare send him outside anyway.
Two-pass editing is for manuscripts that need a lot of sentence structure fixing and have multiple tense, POV or miss-attributions. It is also for technical non-fiction where certain very long sentences need pruning or dividing. In a one-pass edit all these fixes can result in odd words out of place. Some messy sentences need two or three goes to fix.
A two-pass edit won't cost twice as much as a one-pass, but it will cost more. If a ms looks like being a two-pass edit Affa will let you know after the first chapter and you can decide whether or not to go ahead.
